The beginning of something beautiful
June 26, 2017 | What a great start to our summer cruise — perfect weather, and a boost from the current for an easy trip up Admiralty Inlet. Spent a well-deserved restful evening anchored near Kala Point, ready to cross the Strait of Juan de Fuca in the morning. The local oystercatchers were making noises that I’ve never heard before, and a seal was snoring while floating nose up nearby.
We set out across the Strait thru strong tide rips but otherwise calm, perfect conditions. Visibility was so good, we could see every mountain range possible in all directions, all at the same time. Five knots of current going with us made the trip a breeze. Dolphins played at the entrance to Cattle Pass. We anchored in Deer Harbor and stretched our legs on some beautiful country roads.
Sunday morning’s plan was to meet our friends Jim and Kim in Reid Harbor, not very far to go. We anchored so they could raft to us, til the winds threatened to pick up after our hot and muggy hike up to Tip Top. Fun to share stories and goodies with them.
Mischief left first to cross the border into Canada and clear customs in Sidney. Our other objective was to stock up on fresh produce. We are spending the night at the marina, and enjoying walking around the beautifully landscaped waterfront. We are now ready to head north in the morning.
